Spider-Verse inspired 3D Comic (Unity)
The environment is a diorama built in Maya of a small city, seen from the hero’s third-person point of view looking out and viewing the landscape, all inside a flat comic-book cover window. A small flat rectangle will act as a window viewing the city and hero, however it will represent the front of a comic-book cover in 3D form. The open window/cover is the main way to view the landscape, having hidden the rest of the city landscape around it. The city is built inside of a sphere, acting as the diorama boundaries, and left one open window inside (comic-book cover). The city was built on a small scale, with many duplicates of buildings positioned together to look busy and populated. Some advertisement, media and lighting were added to bring the city to life, looking more vibrant and alive. The character (Hero) is supposed to be hidden and will only show the back of the model, hidden and acting as a silhouette. The cover has classic comic-book writing and advertising over the top, with the name and issue of the comic, etc. The inside of the sphere/dome acting as the sky of the city diorama, has dotted and sharp line patterns, making the comic background pop when looking from the cover. The patterns will also help navigate the viewer to the centre of the screen with the cover of the comic. The colour scheme will stay bright and vibrant, being set in a nighttime setting to make the colour’s pop more, keeping the city as the main interest and build of the scene. To avoid too much work on textures, a Spider-verse art style filter/shader was used to keep objects and lighting consistent with one another and look more sketched, artwork-like than smooth and realistic. All lighting, models and shaders was applied and assembled together in Unity.
